Switzer to talk college football twice a week on XM

Oklahoma’s good ol’ boy coach will be on XM 144 each Monday and Friday morning talking college football. Should be fun, hearing him reminisce about the good old days at OU when his football players held co-eds hostage and his star LB was a ‘roid freak.

ESPN tries—again—to predict the season

Last year ESPN had its first mock season with a PLAYOFF, played out on the 6pm Sportscenter each night going week by week through the season. This year’s version (ESPNU Championship Series) kicked off last night, with Rece Davis, Mark May and Lou Holtz (who said, and we were shocked by this, that Notre Dame was going [...]

This is not the way to play College Fantasy Football

College football makes it too easy to pile up ridiculous stats with the scheduling of the Sun Belt, Division 1-AA and Division 2 teams. Hence, playing NFL style fantasy with College players does not work. May we humbly suggest an alternative?

Beano Is Back

I am sorry that I missed this yesterday, but it looks like ESPN is rolling out Beano Cook again (bottom note). Beano has been off the ESPN air for the past 13 years (with the exception of terrible appearances in which he mumbles about Joe Paterno and Penn State in the 70′s). So I guess [...]

Ron Franklin is alive and well

Today’s Houston Chronicle brings news that one of our favorite announcers, Ron Franklin, is recovering well following a concussion and surgery in the wake of a scary April car accident. His truck flipped and nearly plunged into a river near Highway 71 in Texas. “If that sucker had gone off, I don’t see any way [...]

College Football Live, Two Days In

Okay, the second press release got me fired up, but the first two shows have been very underwhelming. Watching Lee Corso in July goes to show that he only needs his 2 hours every Saturday and that is it (he probably needs less than that, but ESPN doesn’t retire outdated analysts or anchors). I know [...]

OK, Maybe College Football Live Won’t Suck

As you’ll recall, I was not excited about the latest venture from ESPN College Football Live. However, with the commercials and the latest press release announcing the first week’s guests and the regular segments each day for the show—DAMN! I did not expect this. I thought it would be an over-produced show, light on info [...]

ESPN begins to promote College Football Live

Our friends at the worldwide leader are preparing the masses for the arrival of College Football Live. Commercials are running during standard programming preparing us for the first episode. As a college football fan this sounds like a great idea: a daily 30-minute show dedicated to College Football. Now, the rub is that it’s being [...]

SI releases their 2007 Team-by-Team Previews

Remember when SI used to be a credible sports magazine? That was before they started using Athlon’s team-by-team previews. I know that ESPN uses the Blue Ribbon Yearbook, but you can’t pick up one of those at every newsstand with the preview for every team in it like you can with Athlon.
