The Bleacher Report has come up with a trap game for each conference. The Pac-10 entry, not surprisingly, involves the Trojans: The Game: USC at Washington State, October 18 Before: Arizona State Why it Will be a Trap Game: Arizona State appears to be main contender in 2008 to end USC’s hegemony in the Pac-10. As part of his “rage-inducing college football predictions,” Mark Bradley thinks that USC will make it to the title game: Speaking of nonconference games … the winner of USC-Ohio State on Sept. 13 will play for the BCS title. It’ll be a Trojan conquest. That difference-in-speed thing again. Haven’t we dealt with the speed myth [...]

At least according to Rivals.com, which has a list of college football’s scariest defenders. There’s room for debate, I suppose, but with this resume it’s hard to argue.

Matt Hayes ranks the Pac-10′s players by position. Some interesting calls, but as far as USC goes pretty much what you would expect: solid on defense, questions in the receiving corps. Here’s a list of the Trojans who made the cut, including some comments from Hayes: Quarterback 3. Maybe it’s because I work on a sports show and I’m inundated with it, but our athletic department has quickly become a punchline. Just this week alone: A judge ruled that Reggie Bush must quit stonewalling and must testify. O.J. Mayo was reported to have taken $30K in cash and gifts. DeMar DeRozan (second-highest rated [...]

[...]

Considering that one out of every eight guys drafted yesterday was a Trojan, does that make this past season more or less disappointing? I vote more. Maybe I won’t feel so bad when 75% of them turn out to be busts like all the other ones. UPDATE: Reader Ross reminds us that at least one [...]

As Kansas cancels classes to celebrate Memphis’ inability to shoot free-throws, the rest of us are watching and reading about the 20 most meaningless practices of the year—because that’s all the college football we get until August 28th. (135 days and counting.) Alabama is in the post-Major Applewhite era, and seems very happy with the [...]

As an SC fan living in the Bevo, Sooner Schooner, Aggie triangle of Dallas the beat writers are all I have to keep me up to date on the most important QB battle in 5 years. Here was the first thing, from Scott Wolf, that killed me. Just the line that the “Dwarf from Shreveport” [...]

Apparently I didn’t give Ohio State enough credit. SBR reader Blake pointed out that the Buckeyes actually have a legit non-conference opponent every year through 2019. Thanks Blake, and I really thank the Buckeyes for at least playing a third tough game each season. I really wish SC scheduled like this.
