Breaking down the logos

Rocky Top Talk is running an interesting series of posts on college football logos, focusing so far on failed attempts to be scary and the boring ones. (Coolest and worst are yet to come.) No sign of SC yet, although pretty much every other Pac-10 team has shown up on one of the two lists [...]

And so it begins…

Two weeks have passed since signing day, and now the guessing games begin. ESPN.com’s Bruce Feldman (my favorite college football writer) takes a look at what QB battles he expects to highlight spring practices nationwide. Cal is #1 on his list, as he thinks that Riley and Longshore will battle into August. But of course [...]

Another look at 2008

ESPN.com’s Mark Schlabach has been assigned the task of predicting the ’08 season—during the winter of 2008, as opposed to the customary summer. First, he gave America this the morning after LSU defeated Ohio State in that fake title game. 5. USC The Trojans played like the best team in the country in their final [...]

Chow to UCLA?

I’ve been pondering this a lot since Chow got fired. Assuming that Chow returns to LA (which is obviously not official yet), about 50% of me is really concerned, because for the first time in a while, UCLA is making all the right moves. USC still hasn’t solved a DeWayne Walker defense, Neuheisel is that [...]

Fanblogs brings us StubHub’s list of 2007′s Top 25 College Football Rivalries, and, wouldn’t you know it, USC shows up twice in the top five. 1 USC at Notre Dame 20-Oct $409 1 $379 2 Ohio State at Michigan 17-Nov $408 3 $876 3 Oklahoma vs. Texas 6-Oct $400 2 $419 4 UCLA at USC [...]

Early opinion on Week 9

As the last Saturday in October approaches, a couple of “experts” are already making their picks for this weekend’s games: Dan Shanoff, formerly of ESPN.com’s Page 2 and now a weekly College Football contributor at Deadspin likes Ohio State over Penn State, Oregon over USC, Cal over ASU, Florida over Georgia at the Cocktail Party, [...]

Weekend on the Couch

Hey Urban Poet: Chuck Weis is listed at around 350lbs so I think that is right. Also, the “Dwarf from Shreveport” was left on the sideline all day so that also helped out a lot. Oh and there are no Division-I offensive players playing currently for Notre Dame. So, Ohio State dominated Michigan St for [...]

Poll potentialities

Not to get too hasty here, but the LA Times points out that if Florida upsets LSU, then (assuming that USC takes care of business against Stanford) USC and Cal will probably occupy the top two spots in the polls. A Florida victory over undefeated Louisiana State at Tiger Stadium could propel USC and California [...]

Starting Over?

Apparently Stewart Mandel wants a do over? Now he thinks that if he were to submit his first AP Ballot after Week 5, then LSU would be #1, followed by USC, Cal, South Florida and Ohio State.
