2007 Post Mortem: College Football and USC

December 1, 2007 has come and gone, which means that this wild and crazy season is over. No one was great, everyone claimed to be good, and we are left with a system that is designed to give us a 1 vs. 2 game—based on the opinions of 167 people who don’t watch every game [...]

Week 10 TV/Announcer Line-up

From, as always, Awful Announcing: Tonight: The Battle of the Techs, with the lovely Erin Andrews on the sidelines. I might watch, since there’s nothing else sports-related on television, but these two teams are seriously dull. Saturday: Early Games: Wisconsin at Ohio State on the Big Ten Network (noon Eastern). For those of you without [...]

USC’s injury problem

Remember that September 24 issue of Sports Illustrated, the one with the USC-Nebraska cover that says “USC on Fire”? I happened to glance at it today (before tossing it), and I realized something. There are four USC players on the cover: John David Booty, Stafon Johnson, Drew Radovich and Chilo Rachal. What do they have [...]

The greatest beatdowns

In honor of SC’s beatdown of Nebraska (and Utah’s beatdown of UCLA, Michigan’s beatdown of Notre Dame, etc.), we bring your attention to “The greatest beatdowns in history.” USC, and the Pac-10 in general, make a few appearances in the top 100: 18. 2005 Orange Bowl: USC wins second straight national title with 55-19 win [...]

Saturday on the Couch – Recap (thanks to College Gameday Final)

Okay, so you got no live updates this week; I apologize. I was taking online defensive driving to get out of a ticket, so I saw very little of the daytime action and then the family came home and it was daddy/daughter time until SC started. First, maybe I was wrong about SC. For the [...]

Both teams saying all the right things

As the fans start to arrive in Lincoln and Lee Corso tries to figure out where Tom Osborne is, both teams are handling the press pretty well. SC is focused on Nebraska and doesn’t care if they are #1 or not: Terrell Thomas said, “You can’t control the rankings, and it doesn’t matter who’s ranked [...]

Nebraska fans announce post-win plans

Nebraska fans are preparing for the upset; let’s just hope that the team is as ready. Even though it’s been a decade since Nebraska was a National Champion, going for the goalposts at a program with that much tradition seems pretty idiotic no matter who the opponent is.

Feldman: Nebraska not afraid; Charlie’s honeymoon over?

In his 9/12 blog posting, ESPN.com’s Bruce Feldman gives us this from Nebraska OL Matt Slauson regarding USC: “That was kind of an intimidation factor there … Initially we came out scared. Now we know ‘em. We know what they’re like. We know their speed. Now we can just focus on the things we have [...]

CFN likes Nebraska

On Tuesday we noted that CollegeFootballNews.com’s Pete Fiutak liked Nebraska plus 10 this weekend against SC. Well, CollegeFootballNews has thought about it some more, and now they are predicting a 27-23 win for the Cornhuskers. What Will Happen: This is where all the bumps and bruises will come back to haunt USC. Safety Josh Pinkard [...]
