Bowl viewership declines

The Wizard of Odds breaks it down. The 2007 data show that either Florida and FSU were big for TV or Kentucky and Michigan fans didn’t travel.

Playoff talk

So, more and more the talk of a plus-one or playoff has exploded since the season ended. We have columnists pontificating on its merits and others trying to figure out why Gordon Gee and his buddies feel that the Bowls System and the BcS are worth protecting (besides the obvious reason: MONEY). Apparently the 65 [...]

Another what-if moment

Even CFN, which which ripped us all year, has us winning their fictional playoff. *sigh* So can we get shirts made saying we won the title from “XXXX” and list everyone who said we would win a playoff? I mean, Auburn made rings for basically an even weaker premise …

Another rousing start for the BCS

It’s a good thing the Rose Bowl was more interested in preserving its “tradition,” because USC-Georgia wouldn’t have been nearly as fun to watch or as relevant as USC-Illinois and Hawaii-Georgia. I hope those bowl ratings Gordon Gee was hiding behind are absolutely soaring with this slate.

Cotton Bowl makes play to join BCS

ESPN has the story: The Dallas Cowboys’ new 80,000-seat stadium in Arlington, Texas might be just the key to unlock the Cotton Bowl’s inclusion in one of college football’s most exclusive clubs: The BCS. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who has a special place in his heart for the Cotton Bowl after helping Arkansas win the [...]

December Madness

Turns out the folks behind the Kansas City Star’s playoff bracket have done a little simulation of their own, which they call December Madness. Currently they’ve settled on the Final Four: OSU vs. OU and Va Tech vs. SC (who beat LSU to get there, by the way). Also, they’ve predicted each of the bowl [...]
