Interesting straw poll

Colin Cowherd this morning was describing ESPN’s big college football meeting, with Herbstreit, Corso, Saunders, Musberger, James, Flutie, etc., and they took a straw poll among their experts. 75% of them said USC would play in the national championship game.
Discuss.

The top ten college football coaches

The Sports Blawger has posted a list of the top ten college football coaches. Some interesting choices along the way (for example, Urban Meyer over Mack Brown), but he ends up in the right place:

1. Pete Carroll, Southern California
Yep. It’s Pete. If OSU dominates the Big-10, I don’t think they’ve invented a name for what [...]

AJC picks Georgia over USC in the title game

As part of his “rage-inducing college football predictions,” Mark Bradley thinks that USC will make it to the title game:
Speaking of nonconference games … the winner of USC-Ohio State on Sept. 13 will play for the BCS title. It’ll be a Trojan conquest. That difference-in-speed thing again.

Haven’t we dealt with the speed myth before? Anyway, [...]

Talkin’ ’bout the BCS

It’s May, which means college football is in its dead period. Apparently, this also means that ESPN wants to get CommishPhil riled up.

Yes, it’s in a pretty setting. Yes, the flowers are lovely. But you have an entire generation of fans that [...]

ESPN’s BCS poll

Right now on the front page of ESPN.com, their poll question asks, Which system would you prefer in college football? With just under 30,000 total votes so far, the tally is as follows:

Plus-one: 22%
Playoff (8 or 16 team): 71%
Current BCS system 7%

My math isn’t so hot, but I think that means 93% of voters [...]

Bowl viewership declines

The Wizard of Odds breaks it down. The 2007 data show that either Florida and FSU were big for TV or Kentucky and Michigan fans didn’t travel.

What a way to Geaux! Er, ahem.

Playoff talk

So, more and more the talk of a plus-one or playoff has exploded since the season ended. We have columnists pontificating on its merits and others trying to figure out why Gordon Gee and his buddies feel that the Bowls System and the BcS are worth protecting (besides the obvious reason: MONEY).
Apparently the 65 BcS [...]
