Week 6 arrives, and so does fall—with its gray skies, yellow leaves, and boring Big 11 games dominating early TV coverage. Week 6 is no exception, as the best game of the year (so far) does not start until 8pm eastern and the rest of the schedule is pretty terrible. So, if you have to trade in some honey-do’s this is your weekend to get them done early on and then be ready for the Battle in Baton Rouge (my name—not sure if ESPN will have a name for it since they don’t have the incentive of broadcasting it).
Thursday, October 8th
A game between ranked teams on Thursday night? ESPN must be wielding its power to compete against the baseball playoffs it lost the rights to. This game will give us the Big 12 North favorite and could make Blaine Gabbert a Heisman candidate if he can lead Mizzou to the win over the Huskers who have found defense under Bo Pelini.
Nebraska @ Missouri (ESPN, 9pm) – Chris Fowler, Craig James, Jesse Palmer, Erin Andrews
Friday, October 9th
I will not watch another game in Nevada, this one should be awful:
Louisiana Tech @ Nevada (ESPN, 9pm) - Joe Tessitore, Rod Gilmore
Saturday, October 10th
Gameday will finally be at a game that is not being broadcast on the ESPN family of networks. Fowler and the gang will be in Baton Rouge to preview the game of the year and talk about Tim Tebow and concussions for two hours. They also might cover the game in Oxford, but other than that they really do not have a lot to talk about as UF/LSU is the only meaningful game of the day.
In the Noon Eastern window the choices are pathetic. I would only watch Auburn at Arkansas from the 11 games that start at Noon or 12:30pm. Just a terrible batch of games. We’ll probably get a crazy upset here just to keep things interesting, but get some brownie points and just pass on these.

In the 3:30pm Eastern window we get a CBS national game and two of the ABC regional games that are worth your time. First, Alabama travels to Ole Miss and we will see if Ole Miss is good at all—because if they get rolled at home then they were a complete pretender and Alabama will then only have LSU in their way in the SEC West. Interesting that Wisconsin and Iowa are the last two undefeated teams in the Big 11. Wisconsin rolls into the Horseshoe to take on the Buckeyes who are hoping to continue their romp through the Big 11. Also, on ABC for a fifth of the country will be Oregon leaving Eugene to travel to the Rose Bowl to take on UCLA. Oregon always has trouble away from Autzen and especially against the Bruins so this one might be worth keeping your eye on.
- Alabama @ Mississippi (CBS, 3:30pm) – Craig Bolerjack, Steve Beurelein
- Wisconsin @ Ohio State (ABC/ESPN, 3:30pm) – Sean McDonough, Matt Millen, Holly Rowe
- Connecticut @ Pittsburgh (ABC/ESPN, 3:30pm) – Mike Patrick, Craig James, Heather Cox
- Oregon @ UCLA (ABC, 3:30pm) – Terry Gannon, David Norrie
- Baylor @ Oklahoma (ABC, 3:30pm) – Ron Franklin, Ed Cunningham
- Navy @ Rice (CBS College Sports, 3:30pm) – Jason Knapp, Akbar Gbaja-Biamila
- Marshall @ Tulane (CSS, 3:30pm) – Bob Neal, Chuck Oliver, Allison Williams (Will Air on CST)
- Bowling Green @ Kent State (FS Ohio, 3:30pm) – Jeff Phelps, Rob Otto
- Gardner-Webb @ Buffalo (Time Warner-NY, 3:30pm) – Howard Simon, Ruben Brown
- Georgia Southern @ North Carolina (ESPN360, 3:30pm) – Ryan Rose, Danny Kannell
- Indiana @ Virginia (ESPN360, 3:30pm) – Frank Giardina, Sonny Randle
- Duke @ North Carolina State (ESPNU, 4pm) – Carter Blackburn, Charles Arbuckle
In the pre-8pm Eastern games you can check on Stanford taking their undefeated conference record to Corvallis or watch Texas finish the Dan Hawkins era at Colorado.
- Utah @ Colorado State (MTN, 6pm) – James Bates, Todd Christensen, Roger Bailey
- Maryland @ Wake Forest (ESPN360, 6:30pm) – Jeff Dantzler, Jim Donnan

- North Texas @ Louisiana-Lafayette (Sun Belt TV, 7pm) – Todd Kalas, Derek Rackley
- Southern Mississippi @ Louisville (ESPNU, 7pm) – Clay Matvick, David Diaz-Infante
- Kansas State @ Texas Tech (FS Regional, 7pm) – Bill Land, Gary Reasons, Emily Jones
- Florida A&M @ Miami (ESPN360, 7pm) – Jim Barbar, Je’Rod Cherry
- Colorado @ Texas (ESPN, 7:15pm) – Brad Nessler, Todd Blackledge, Erin Andrews
- Texas Christian @ Air Force (CBS College Sports, 7:30pm) – Tom Hart, Aaron Taylor
We finally make it through the entire Saturday and we will get the Tim Tebow suckfest (even though Gary Danielson thinks today [Wednesday] that Tebow will not play). I think he plays and Verne will go on and on about how great he is. Florida is favored by 8 at LSU at night and that just means that Vegas knows everyone is betting the crap out of Florida and that LSU is not that good and they should have lost their last two. If you need something else between commercials you can check out Michigan at Iowa were Iowa better not let down as they did against Arkansas State.
- Florida @ Louisiana State (CBS, 8pm) – Verne Lundquist, Gary Danielson, Tracy Wolfson
- Michigan @ Iowa (ABC, 8pm) – Brent Musburger, Kirk Herbstreit, Lisa Salters
- Georgia Tech @ Florida State (ESPN2, 8pm) – Mark Jones, Bob Davie
- East Carolina @ Southern Methodist (ISP Sports, 8pm) – CJ Martin, Bruce Wiseman, Dave Michaels (Will Air on MASN)
- Texas-El Paso @ Memphis (ISP Sports, 8pm) – Sam Smith, Roger Schultz (Will Air on FCS Atlantic)
- Utah State @ New Mexico State (Aggie Vision, 8pm) – Glen Cerny, Danny Knee (Will Air on Altitude2)
- Idaho @ San Jose State (Go Vandals, 8pm) – Bob Akamian, Mike Lamb
