As you probably know, it took SI.com about two days to put up a fake 16-team playoff (using the BcS standings and seeding them 1-16), based on votes from the fans. Unsurprisingly, three huge state schools made the semis. (We actually were a bit surprised that the fans picked USC over LSU.)

Now the WWL has thrown its hat into the fake playoff ring with Corso and Herbstreit doing a 10-team playoff (top 6 in the quarters, 7/10 and 8/9 in play-in games), with seeding from—you guessed it—the final BcS Standings. One question: why is there no originality in these fake playoffs? Why not invent your own way to choose the teams and choose them so that you can at least say you are thinking about what it should look like? Instead, it’s “Oh, hey, I have an idea: let’s take the top 10 and throw a bracket together and give Herbie and Corso a reason to keep college football on the map for a week as we wait for the meaningless bowls to start.”
