In his 9/12 blog posting, ESPN.com’s Bruce Feldman gives us this from Nebraska OL Matt Slauson regarding USC:

“That was kind of an intimidation factor there … Initially we came out scared. Now we know ‘em. We know what they’re like. We know their speed. Now we can just focus on the things we have to do to prepare for them.”

Hey, it’s good that a team playing in front of the 3rd largest city in Nebraska is not going to be scared of an opponent. I mean, why would you be scared when your coach has been outcoached by such geniuses as Norv Turner, Marty Schottenheimer, Gunther Cunningham, and Mack Brown?

Secondly: apparently Notre Dame Fans are not happy with Charlie Weis and his summer of litigation:

A follow up to some of the Notre Dame talk this week: I get e-mails from a few buddies who are ND fans. One of them always loved to say how Ty Willingham spent more time golfing than recruiting, and that’s why he isn’t in South Bend any more. Two days ago I got an e-mail from him saying maybe Charlie Weis should’ve spent more time in the film room than worrying about his stomach stapling lawsuit. It is surprising to see how much things can change after a couple of blowout losses.

Wow, guy almost dies and ND fans want film study instead of legal stories. Let’s hope they go 0-8 so we can see if ND fan’s head explodes …

I’m actually interested to see how the ND fanbase reacts if Weiss keeps losing games badly, and the media starts picking up more steam with the Willingham-Weiss comparison/debate. Ultimately ending with some beat writer trying to make a name for his/herself and straight up calling Notre Dame and the schools fans a bunch of racists.

Will those fans suddenly stop bagging on Weiss and find every excuse under the sun that he’s done better than Willingham, or will there be a call for him to be fired?

Also in the world of “completely ridiculous scenario that could only happen in college football”, what happens if the Patriots Spying story somehow involves Weiss while he was a member of the coaching staff? Notre Dame showed they won’t accept coaches who lack integrity (George O’Leary). This last scenario is utterly insane and has only a 1 in a million chance of happening, but damn would that make for some crazy stories.

Jared… Jared… Jared… But Charlie Weiss is white!
