Coach Weiss

Circa 14 years ago, these programs played “The Game of The Century”: #1 vs. #2. Now, Notre Dame and Florida State have to hold press conferences to announce who will get to lead them to 8 wins. I’m sure the suspense is killing you.

For Florida State, it’s going to be Drew Weatherford. (Xavier Lee, meanwhile, is pretty upset about choosing Tallahasee over Gainesville.) In South Bend, Coach Weis has decided upon a QB, but doesn’t want to tell anyone—not even the kids.

Weis has said repeatedly since the team began practicing this month he would not announce whether Evan Sharpley, Demetrius Jones or Jimmy Clausen would start at quarterback until it was time to take the field Sept. 1 for the opener against Georgia Tech.

Thursday night following practice, Weis said for the first time he had made his choice.

“I’m absolutely sure who the starting quarterback is,” he said.

Weis became agitated when asked further about his choice.

“Do you think I’m going to be so fickle that I won’t know who the quarterback is going to be?” he asked.

Pressed further, Weis said he has known for a week or two who would start. But he said he still hasn’t told the player.
